my 4770k is lemon (3.9ghz@1.1v), (4.0ghz@1.25v), (4.3ghz@1.5v)

now i am pretty sure my chip is the worst 4770k chip in the world, since i gooogle and google and the worst i can find is 4.2 @ 1.2V.

FML.
fyi, i am using stock cooler, just looking to test my cpu oc capabilities before investing on a better cooler. (which i ultimately dont, since my chip sucks)

if possible, do kindly point me to some other bad oc 4770k chip cases, even worse than mine so i could feel better. :pfff:

Are you using an ASUZ z87 chipset? I have a copy of a guide that I found on the internet a while ago which details a lot of information about overclocking using this chipset. This is the file here: http://ulozto.net/x1X8SV2b/z87-and-4th-generation-core-series-processor-overclocking-outlineedit-rar but for some reason there is a password on the .rar file and cannot find the document somewhere else.
Basically they tested 600 processors, out of those, 70% can get to 4.5 GHz overclock or higher. Only 30% got to 4.6 (keeping in mind this is within reasonable core voltages between 1.15 to 1.4 and at 1.4 Volts, unless you're using a high capacity liquid cooling system, you're likely to melt the CPU).
This being said, you may have been...

I have the 4770k as well.
This guide worked well for me: http://www.overclockers.com/3step-guide-to-overclock-intel-haswell
I'm not sure what settings you've played with, but for me the key for me was to keep the cache speeds within 300 MHz from my core speed.
I'm at 4.5 GHz @ 1.32 V and my cache multiplier is at 42 (min and max) - very stable.
I can go to 4.6 but need 1.4 V to be stable (cache at 43).
Other guides I've found point out that most 4770's will easily get to 4.3 without much voltage, so I would be looking at other settings to get stability instead of voltage.

hi sir. thanks for the reply but still i cannot overclock stable past 4.0ghz with 1.25v, even with cache ratio or volt being set up at reasonable values. i had read the guide and others but still no success.

so i am sure and surer now that my chip is the WORST 4770k in the world... unless it was my ram? i am using normal 1600mhz 8gb single ram... but had tried to use lower speed but no avail.

This being said, you may have been unlucky enough to have gotten one of the 30% of processors that don't want to overclock well... Sorry.
The only other thing I can suggest after reading this document again, is keeping the motherboard (any mobo) settings at auto except the clock ratio's, core voltages, and RAM speeds. Also, this test of 600 processors said they only had problems with stability after 1600 MHz RAM, so your 1600 MHz shouldn't be a problem. You can do a RAM stress test (at stock settings) and see if there is a problem with your RAM.

sorry for the late reply. i am busy being frustrated. i have tried countless combination of vring vcore cache ratio, every possible tips i have found in the internet. and i eventually gave up. my chip really is the worst 4770k in the world, i guess someone dug it up under a pile of non-k chips. it irked me somehow when someone said thier chip is dodgy at 4.3g @ 1.2v. T_T

thanks for trying to help sir.

hi bro,
i feel you man.I think my proc is same like you. oc to 4.0 ghz. vcore is 1.25.
I have no idea what has happened to my i7 4770k. during prime95 test, temp around 96 to 100c.
using CM seidon 120v

I know the feeling of getting a lemon! Back in the day I had a 2.4GHz Athlon 64 x2 (Or it may have been an Opteron, I forget) that would do 2.45GHz and NO MORE. No amount of voltage would even get the thing to POST at 2.5GHz. I guess it's just luck of the draw, at least you managed to get 4GHz/an extra 600MHz out of it... Just be thankful it didn't only give you 50MHz before hitting the wall!
