Hey,
I have only just recently found out that it si possible to have dual graphics with an APU and a discrete GPU, I have a MSI r9 270x GPU and an AMD A8-6600k APU, I was wondering if it was possible to have the integrated graphics on the APU and the 270x set up in dual graphics, I have looked a several tutorials and all of which say that in the BIOS settings I need to set init display first to On board, however I cannot find this in my BIOS, my motherboard is a Gigabyte F2A88X-D3H.

Thanks

Solution
No. Unfortunately, the GPU has to match the on-die GPU of the A8-6600K. The highest pairing for the A8-6600K is the HD 6670.

I have seen some people having dual graphics set up with the 6600k & 7700 series card

I have not seen that. There are some, however, that have reported good luck getting the HD 7750 to do dual graphics. Either way, there is no dual graphic combination that would be as potent as your R9-270X alone.

Your APU has the Radeon HD 8570D graphics engine.

In order to run Dual-Graphics, the card(s) of choice would be an HD6670 or HD6570. I'm thinking a single R9 270x would slobber-knock that, especially as Mantle evolves.

When you move up to Kaveri there will likely be shared cores in multiple HSA applications between the CPU and discreet video card to benefit performance -- the Turks cores on the A8-6600k APU may benefit in some limited fashion in those scenarios.

Gaming? Likely not so much.
