Hey Community :)

I have a problem upgrading my CPU, let me go over the details.

I brought a brand new i5-3570k 3.4 GHz 6mb cache. The processor that i'm currently using is the i3-2120 3.3 GHz. So when i got my processor i went ahead and installed it, here is how it went:

1. Unplug everything, remove case lid, ETC.
2. Unplug and remove heat sink.
3. without touching the processor underneath, i took out the old processor.
4. cleaned the heat sink with TIM Clean.
5. inserted the new processor the correct way and clamped it down.
6. put small amount of Thermal compound onto new processor.
7. Couldnt use the new heat sink as it has weird clips so carried on using my heat sink (its much bigger and looks like it will do more then the new one) and fitted it back in.
8. Closed it all up and plugged everything in.

This is where i began to have a problem. My computer was turning ON and all fans started up. There is a beep noise every 2-3 seconds continuously, with a black screen. I left this on for about 5 minutes. Still after nothing i replaced my old processor to see if i have damaged anything else or the new processor. Computer works fine. So i looked on the internet to see if there are any solutions, and saw one about updating BIOS settings. I updated my BIOS and still getting the same problem.

Here are my system specs:

Motherboard: Fujitsu d2990-a11
OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Manufacturer FUJITSU
System Model ESPRIMO PH300
System Type x64-based PC
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz, 3300 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical
BIOS Version/Date FUJITSU // American Megatrends Inc. V4.6.4.0 R1.10.0 for D2990-A1x, 02/04/2012
SMBIOS Version 2.7
Nvidia GeForce GT 630 2GB Graphics Dedicated
8GB RAM
1TB Hard-drive

The guy that sold me it (Maplin) told me he is almost certain that it will work, if you have any information that could solve it thats very much appreciated :D thank you.

yes i updated the motherboards BIOS settings, unfortunately didnt work.

sounds like you may need a bios flash to get the cpu to work on that board.
initially when it was released it would support up to the 2700k. and has no support for the 3 series
problem is its a fujitsu board, so its very likely there wont be an upgraded bios that allows you to switch to the 3rd gen i3-i5-i7

I think you should return the i5, you are wasting it on a H61 chipset that does not allow oc, plus it wont have any real benefit with the rest of the system; your i3 is good enough. if you want to upgrade, start with the gpu (GT 630 sucks), and an SSD.
