I have a Windows 7 Pro key that I updated from Windows 7 Home Edition. I have the disk and key for Windows home 32bit and 64bit.

I'd like to upgrade from windows 7 Pro 32bit to windows 7 Pro 64 bit, retaining all my program files and desktop icons. I do not want to install the old 64bit version, since it is over a year old and there are many updates. So, 1)can I get a Win 7 Pro disk/ISO image with most updates - reasonably priced, 2)can I use Windows recovery to transfer files only, and 3)where do I get this information?

You will have to do a clean install using 64 bit for the original and upgrade to the higher version 64 bit. Unfortunately i have searched for a long time to find a way around this but Microsoft built it that way intentionally.
Clean install is the only way to move from 32-bit to 64-bit (or vice versa). You will have to reinstall all applications so gather up all of your media and keys beforehand. You can use the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard to backup your existing profile and program settings (settings only, no actual programs) for later restore to the new installation.
