CPU overheating on Crysis 3 and AC 4.

Components:
Mobo: Asus M5A97 LE R2. 0
CPU: FX8320 @ 3.850GHZ
CPU cooler: cooler master vortex
GPU: Gigabyte Windforce GTX770 4gb
RAM: 16gb 1600mhz DDR3 SKILL
PSU: Corsair CX750M

I have 2 120mm case fans that blow outward through the top and back by CPU and one 90know fan that sucks in air from the front. Most air is drawn in from the side via case vents that are located over the CPU. My CPU cooler fan blows through HS and onto chip. Today I bought Crysis 3 and about an hour in the game shut down and my PC warned me that CPU temps are exceeding 65c. I play many other games but the CPU never reaches more than 55c. I have Crysis 3 maxed out with MXAA X 4 and averaging 45fps at 1080p. The game was running great and then it began to flash on and off. I mean it would exit to Windows then return to game. That is when I go the over temp warning about my CPU. Any suggestions s?

I found the culprit! Asus's AI suit II. It was overclocking the hell out of my CPU while playing the game. It has since been removed and all problems are gone. For some reason this program decided it was a good Idea to pump up my clock speed to 4.1Ghz! My Mobo freaked out and tried to shut down but AI suite was preventing it from doing that.

Usually the culprit is dust/dirt around the heat sync, poor contact between heat sync and CPU, improperly installed heat sync, lack of or improper thermal paste application. Since it appears you have adequate cooling, I don't think that is an issue.

However, 65C should not shut down the PC. Nor is that too hot for momentary spikes. I wonder if the settings in your BIOS need adjusting. Some BIOSs have a temp shutdown range that can be adjusted by the user. Or even disabled, which is what I would do because I constantly monitor my temps.

I just checked the heat sinc and it is clean. However I did notice on the front of my case there is a screen beteen the decorative mesh and the front mounted fan. This screen was completely filled with stuff. I cleaned the screen so i will have to give it a test run after work.
Also, the computer didn't shut down. The game did. It was like something was turning it on and off every time the CPU temp exceeded 65c. i use speed fan to monitor my temps so i will keep an eye on the CPU and see if cleaning that screen helped. Im still curious about the game issues though. I wonder if that is a windows function or some other application turning the game off at high temps.

Next time it happens, try doing a print-screen or taking a photo. Then post it here using the tools in the forum message window. I can't think of any Windows app that would do that. But as I said, some motherboard BIOSs have that feature. Just because your CPU hit 65C should not cause anything to shut down the game... unless you have some third party program running that is set to do that.

Well. I lowered the settings of the game and the temp seems to level out at 60c in heavy game playon crysis 3. I ddon't thing it is any app I just think my CPU is becoming unstable after it hits 65c. The game gets all choppy and stutters when my CPU hits that temp or higher. I might just need a better CPU cooler.

I don't think that is the issue at all. You have some program running in the background that is monitoring your CPU temp and is set too low. Or, like I said, a BIOS setting. 65C is not unsafe for that processor. Hot, yes, but not unsafe and not unexpected. But until I have an idea of what pgm is displaying that message, I can't really come up with a solution.
