Intel Xeon CPU Stepping Matching for Dell Poweredge

I'd like to upgrade the four Xeon e7310 CPUs I have socketed on a Dell PowerEdge R900 four-socket Socket 604 motherboard (part number C764H).

I can easily get four Xeon e7340 CPUs (http://www.cpu-world.com/sspec/SL/SLA68.html) online, but I am not sure if they can be considered matched, since that requires that all four CPUs have the same stepping.

Is the Intel S-spec for this CPU (SLA68) the same as the stepping? That is, if I buy four SLA68 CPUs will they work on a (compatible) four-socket motherboard? Alternatively, is there some other identifier that will determine the stepping, if the S-spec is not sufficiently specific?

Please let me know!

Yea the S-spec will do. That is what i usually go off of. They usually have the same stepping for the most part. Never had a Quad CPU system though. Only Dual so not sure how much strict the requirements must be.

but going form the 7310 to the 7410 you should see a good bump in performance.

Cool, thank you. I think the compatibility requirement should be the same for any 2+ sockets, so if the S-spec identifies a stepping uniquely for a dual-socket system I agree that it should be the same for a quad-socket. Thanks again.
