I was wondering if there could be a compatibility issue? I also read that some of the newer Samsung SSDs are incompatible with AMD chipsets. Also should I avoid getting a Sandforce SSD at all costs?

Solution

K, well my pc is amd fx 8350 with an asus m5a99fx pro board, I have 2x 256gb Samsung 840 pros as well as 2x 240gb intel 530 ssd's as well. raid on the samsungs, and intels are both from an old laptop I just replaced and got a Samsung 840 evo 1 tb for it since it only had one hhd space.

So, I don't know of any compatability issues, so I do...

There is nothing that makes or doesn't make a data storage (ssd in this case) work with a cpu chipset or not. They are all compatable. It requires a sata 3 or sata 2 connection, and sata power connection. The motherboard is what actually connects to the data drive.

But to answer your question any ssd or hhd or shhd is compatable with intel/amd. And sandforce isn't the best no, but it still isn't horrible either. But for the price, depends what you want. Get sandforce and a great amount of storage for the same price as a smaller drive otherwise.

@rgd1101 I already have an AMD system if you haven't noticed already. I posted my question looking for help not to debate with Intel fanboys and your answer is off topic as well and not related to my questions.

@Dblkk I read about the compatability issues on other forum posts especially with newer SSDs. Although there was that one guy who said he had an Intel SSD running well on a 970 board.

So, I don't know of any compatability issues, so I do apologize for answering and not knowing. But In my case im running two separate brands, and have put 5 difference ssd's into my amd system with absolutely no issues whatsoever.
