Approximate Purchase Date: sometime this month, maybe next

Budget Range: $350 to $400,

System Usage from Most to Least Important: web browsing, simple stuff, literally the most graphically incuded thing is hd video on youtube

Are you buying a monitor: nope

Parts to Upgrade: the whole pc, i dont think anything is salvagable

Do you need to buy OS: no, i think i got that covered

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: none really, i use pcpartpicker like many people here

Location: charlotte, north carolina

Parts Preferences: im thinking intel cpu for the singlethreaded performance, but it depends on how well the graphics will do. otherwise i was thinking an amd a4 or a6

Overclocking: nope

SLI or Crossfire: nope

Your Monitor Resolution: i think its 1024 x 768, its one of the squarish ones that come with hp's and are like the ones at high schools

Additional Comments: its a small form factor build for my parents, preferabbly slim over mini itx cube. i would like to keep the case and change the psu, or if theres another slim case. it has a card reader which is an added plus but i doubt itd be used much. i just picked it cause it was cheap and would do the job for a pc that sits on a desk and browses the web. also i was thinking of an ssd, right now they use 80gbs, so i was thinking an 120gb ssd, cause they have a 1tb external one that they use.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: lets just leave you a link of what my parents are using right now

so anyway, i have a few options, i was wondering if the wonderful people here can take a look and see if they can bring the budget down, and just give me some feedback. a few questions is would a pentium be fine? and i3 is hyperthreaded but i dont think it would make much of a difference. also, will the integrated graphics on the pentium be enough for hd video?

thats what i was thinking, intel is the way to go for this. would the graphics suffice? im pretty sure they would, i just wana be sure. its running on onboard graphics with their computer now so it will be fine. i changed the psu cause ones that come with cases aren't very good, and i wanted something power efficient. also, i dont want it to blow up taking the system with it. but, it will definatly be more energy efficient than now so i think i'll drop it and go with the i3 build. or maybe stick with the pentium anyway, save some more money in the process. im not sure

i like the look of that case, antex psus are very good too. however, it says it only fits a slim optical drive, but it looks like on the front its a standard 5.25 inch bay. i'll look into it some more, and draft a build with it

I think you are right, it looks like it takes a slim optical drive.
I used one in another small case, and they work perfectly fine.
One gotcha you have to look out for is that they don't take normal sata power and data cables.
You will need an adapter cable.
Something like this:

Another small case which I have used several times is the lian li Q07:

It uses conventional power supplies and a standard dvd.

i like lian li cases, but i think that one is too big. do you think the psu in the antec case would come with the small sata power cable? since it only has a slim optical drive slot?

is there anything between the pentium i showed and the i3? the pentium is almost have as expensive, and it will do just fine. im just trying to keep the price down more with that antec case
