radeon r9 280x vs gigabyte gtx 770 4gb

Solution
The Radeon will be better for LTC and BTC cryptomining.

The Nvidia in my opinion will be better for gaming.

Radeon will consume a little more power.

High levels of AA will be better on the 770, pixel rate.

AF will also be better on the 770.

Go with the 770 for gaming.

In the future I'm sure things will change and flip flop, but, it'll still be an amazing card, and outperform a lot of cards.

That depends on what your version of future-proofing implies.

The r9-280X has a fair bit more bandwidth and that gives it the lead in single-GPU 2160p gaming benchmarks and roughly even at 1440p. So, unless resolutions between 1440p are within that future you speak of, you are probably better off with the 770. If you want good framerates at 1440p and beyond, you would need to consider going with the R9-290/290X or stepping up to the 780.

so i shouldnt be worried about the 384bit or the 256bit now or in the future? I only ask because on another thread on toms someone said "get the card with 384 bit, it will be better in the future" i think someone was deciding between a 760 and a 7950.

Would a man carrying water in 4 buckets fill a pool with water faster than a man with 2 buckets?
what if the man with 2 buckets could move twice as fast? what if he was closer to the pool? what if the size of the pool was different for both men? What if one man drops his buckets every so often......\

What im trying to get at, bitrate doesnt determine the performance of a graphics card, now, or in the future, there are many other factors. Nvidia cards generally rely less on memory bandwidth to perform well, maybe due to caching, memory clock speed, memory latency, speed of the memory controller, etc, etc, etc. There is always going to be something one card does better than the other due to different architectures, but overall they are pretty well on par, the 770 has a slight overall lead at default clock speeds.
