I used the AMD Overdrive to overlock my FX 8300. The results were, frame rate losss it seems, basicly just games being almost unplayable. I put it back to defaults and very playablr again. I have an ASUS M51BC with FX-8300 CPU and HD 8760 OEM gpu. What went wrong there?

overdrive sucks at overclocking. it usually pumps the vcore too high (which increases the heat too much) and slows the ram down too much. overall it's pretty worthless. You'll get much better results doing it yourself.

It sounds like the processor might be overheating and then throttling down to prevent damage. Even when using a software-based overclocking solution, you still have to ensure your overclock is stable and safe. Do you know what your idle and load temperatures are? What cooler are you using on your processor?

Stability issues generally cause random system crashes, blue screens and boot failures. Flat, consistent performance loss would be unusual, but I suppose its possible.
