Netgear R6300 router suddenly can't see internet connection

With the help of people on Tom's Hardware and beyond I've solved some pretty dicey, complex problems over the last several years, so having to turn here for this issue seems a bit embarrassing... but I'm at a loss.

Today my R6300 router stopped playing nice. I can access the internet if I run straight from the cable modem to my workstation. Additionally, I can access the internet if I bypass the router and go straight from the modem to my 24-port switch, but then I have issues with seeing everything on my network, trying to see my Drobo in particular is giving me headaches.

When I access the router via routerlogin.net, it predictably tells me there's no internet connection, but no troubleshooting recommendation on there works. Eventually it suggests using the PC's MAC number and when that fails to work, it starts over with the first suggestion again. I've power cycled everything numerous times in different manners, resetting, not resetting, etc. At this point I just don't know what the router suddenly needs that it didn't have before (it worked fine for a year and a half).

Any suggestions on what could be causing this or what I could try next would be wonderful. Thanks!

Thanks for the response scout_03. The firmware has been updated and the power light does stay on.

I've noticed the issue is happening with my router only in the 5GHz, the 2.4GHz one is stable. I've switched back to the 5GHz net and it is unstable, works on and off. It has started late this morning, before it was working normally and there hasn't been any new updates to the firmware. I will try rebooting completely late night today, just hope it is not the radio giving up.

Hello
I got quite the same issue :
- less and less devices can connect the router, especially with the "ac" protocol (that was one of the most important feature of this router for a high speed WLAN)
- the sole modification to network as been the change of my preceeding GS608/GS605/GS108P to 5 smart manageable switches.

Netgeart.support had told me by mid-2014 that there is a "hard limit of 20 connections or users".
We supposed it was a limit to the max number of defined association between @MAC and @IP in LAN set up.
I found a limit of 64 association in that table (new limit not defined in commercial documentation that told about "up to 253 users") : only 64 lines, because not possible to add one more when 64 are already defined.

Regarding to the reduction of the max number of connected devices, its looks like that using more @IP for the manageable switches it is reducing the number of old devices that I can now simultaneously connect to my D6300 modem-router.

Is there someone who could confirm that point : hypothesis of a limit number for simultaneous connections ?

best regards
