Can my Laptop handle a 5.1 speaker system?

Would my laptop be able to handle a 5.1 or would I have to use a external sound card?

Even if the onboard sound chip supports it, you need the right outputs. 3x 3.5mm stereo TRS jacks, S/PDIF toslink (optical), or S/PDIF coaxial. If the laptop doesn't have that, you'll need an external sound card to get 5.1 channel output.

Could I hook it up to my TV? Its a 2010ish samsung tv
