Ok so I bought several pc parts from a friend to start a pc build. He had bought them off of a person on craigslist and took the parts he wanted. Out of the parts I received were a WD black 1T hard drive. I played several games on the pc before we disassembled it for him to take his parts, and everything seemed fine. Now I Have installed it in my own case and the Hard drive is making a lot of clicking noises now and boot up seems pretty slow. I've heard this means the HDD is dying and I need to replace it soon. I don't want to spend a lot of money on one, as I intend to purchase a SSD later on anyway. However, I don't want to end up with a HDD that doesn't last either. (ex. I've heard Seagate has had a lot of issues w/ HDD failing just over 1yr use). WIll I be disappointed in a WD Green 1TB, or should I go at least a step higher?

TL;DR - I have a used WD Black 1TB that has just started clicking over night. Will I be disappointed if I replace it with a WD Green 1TB?

yep you will be dissapointed.the black is hands down faster than the green and faster than the blue.just because it failed doesnt mean all wd blacks are bad.it means that your friend didnt get everything in good condition.hdds usually take some time to fail.chances are this one was gone before your buddy even got it.

Since we had played on it a few times and not noticed it, could it have gotten damaged when being moved from one case to another? Are HDD typically overly sensitive when taken out of a case? This is my first PC and if so, I don't want to make that mistake again. Thanks for reply

I will Check the warranty in when I get off later in the morning, Thanks for all reply! I will probably end up getting the WD Blue if warranty ends up not being valid.
