i am working on my first build. Would like to make a Hackintosh and would like it to have a raid 0.
But i would also like it to dual boot with windows. i would like to overclock it as well but don’t have any experience on it.

It will be mostly used for video editing, gaming and the reason for dual booting is because i am an aspiring programmer who would like to have two different operating systems in one computer that i could work in when coding.

THANK YOU!. any suggestions or comments will help.

approximate purchase date: 2 weeks from now

Budget Range: $1000-$2000

System Usage from Most to least Important: video editing, gaming, website coding

overclocking: yes, maybe

ski or crossfire:not sure what this is yet.

Solution

I feel that the sabertooth boards are a little overpriced. Although they do come with a extra industrial design and come backed with a stronger warranty then other boards. If I were you with the storage drive I would get a external enclosure for it so within your PC you only have the SSD's keeping it nice and clean :)

I also feel that in the future things are going more the efficiency direction so you may need less more then you'll need more power but that's fine you can power 2x 770's if you wanted with that build and have plenty of room...
You honestly don't need a 850w psu for the 770gtx. Their was a recent video doen by overclock3d that showed that a 450 watt psu from the RM corsair series was able to power a 780Ti which requires probably more power then the GTX770.

Also, you only have listed one hard drive. In order to do something like a raid configuration you would want to do more then one. And given that you are doing video editing and things of that nature I would think that having a SSD scratch drive would be amazing and perhaps a OS drive as well. So perhaps one way you could go about it is to have your storage drive where everythign is moved onto after it is written onto the SSD and then have your OS's on the SSD as well so something like maybe a 256 or 250 gb SSD would probably be up your alley whether something like a Samsung 840 Pro or EVO but one of those would be great for abuild like yours.

In terms of the memory you have selected I have nothing against your choice of the corsair lp memory kit for 16 gb however one thing to keep in mind though is that with your h100i the need really for lower profile memory isn't quite their if you are using a water cooling solution. Something like Crucial Ballistix Sport would save you some money just about 30 dollars in the end on the memory.
Corsair Memory $169.99

Crucial Memory $139.99

The only thing really that benefits you with a board like the Maximus boards is that you have a higher threshold for overclocking potiential given the components on the boards. However, at this point with the Haswell CPU's a lot of the overclocking is handled via the CPU itself so really spending a ton of your Motherboard unless you are going for the tip top of the overclocking spectrum is wasted.

Something like this is what I would recommend for your motherboard choice. Solid board maker, solid board, cheap price.
Asus Motherboard Z87 105 dollars.

So in the end perhaps something like this. This does not include some things. Case, OS, Monitor/s, mouse, keyboard.

Thank you for your help. I think i will reconsider overclocking as it is my first build and would not like to mess it up.
For the dual booting and raid configuration, would i need 3 or 4 ssd's (samsung 840 evo 250gb)? 2 for a OS with raid and the other OS on the 3rd sdd. .but I'm not certain if i need a 4th as a boot drive? I want to have the option of choosing which OS to use after turning on computer.

thank you.
The lasting thing I'm contemplating is between the ASUS Radeon R9 280X or The EVGA GeForce GTX 770 OR Gigabyte Radeon R9 280X. I'm not sure what the difference between the asus and gigabyte radeon r9 280x is. Is it just the brand or manufacturer?

I am not to familiar with the difference that AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards have. I'm still under my budget, so I'm an willing to spend up to $500 of a graphics card if need be.

Well honestly it comes down to features and what benefits the most from the software that you are using. For example AMD has mantle which some games are starting to use. Also, AMD has directcompute opencl where as Nvidia has CUDA. For me personally if I'm not one playing BF4 or Star Citizen then I would probably go with the Nvidia option for now. In terms of editing programs I guess it comes down to whatever performs better I know that with Adobe programs you can use both but I'd probably feel more comfortable with Nvidia however, to note I'm not a professional with editing programs.

Thank you, ill consider using an AMD graphics card. And i will consider the builds you suggested. I may post info and images of what my end choices are next week and off my post build when i receive all the parts .
