Hi everyone, i was wondering what would the best cpu be to pair with my XFX AMD Radeon 7970, i am upgrading my pc from an AMD A10 and an ATI 7570 Graphics card, if my processor can handle my 7970, I'll keep it, also, my budget for a processor and a mother board is just over £200 maybe £250.

I would love to hear any answers, thanks!

Go with either a fx 8320/50 or an haswell I5, those would be neat.
Your current APU would have a hard time keeping it op in some CPU intensive games, I would recommend also upgrading to one of the CPUs recommended above.

Best choice for just over £200

If you want to get max performance for £250 get https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/phanteks-cpu-cooler-phtc12dxbk and overclock the 8350.

At £250 you can get yourself an i5 and decent motherboard, which I'd recommend over the AMD. If you want to overclock then an i5 will push your budget too far. You need around £280 for an i5 "k" series processor and Z77/Z87 motherboard. Of course, you could buy second-hand as I did.

Alternatively, if you want to overclock and keep within budget, then AMD makes more sense. The FX-8350 can be had for around £150 and an FX-6350 for around £100. That still leaves you with £100-£150 for a motherboard, which is more than enough. Check out Dabs, that's where I buy my stuff.
