So I currently have ADSL2+ with iinet in Australia and the download speed with speedtest.net is roughly 2Mbps (maximum) and actual download speeds are often around 120KBps which isn't really meeting what i'm paying for in my mind, Telstra provides cable internet which I'm intrigued about. Could someone please just simply explain to me whether Cable would be quicker downloading/ping ?? As much as info as you can is much appreciated, thanks. what line speed and what actual download speeds would i be looking at for a suburban area where cable is available?

I would probably start off by calling up the ISP and explaining that the connection speed you are getting at home is bad and have them check it out. Honestly 120Kbps is way too low a speed for an ADSL connection.
If your ISP can't do anything about the speed I would definitely go for the cable internet connection. I honestly don't think it could be worse than what it is now, it will probably be a lot better.

It depends, if you're several kilometers from the exchange then it's possible.

Cable is almost always faster than ADSL, yes. Just that I'd imagine that they're charging a hefty premium.

Also, a master filter can make a significant improvement to your connection if you've got bad internal wiring.

EDIT: The speedtest was done over Ethernet, right? No WiFi involved?

It was done over wifi but whenever it's using Ethernet its pretty much the same. I really just would like to know what kind of average download speeds cable would give, I'm told this cable is fairly new and wouldn't have as much traffic interference as Adsl. Thoughts?
