Hey all,
I spilled some water and organic ,mater in down the top fan of my PC. The graphics card obviously got hit and I'm suspecting the power supply underneath got hit too as I have replaced the graphics card and I went to turn it on and it turns on with a short (1 or 2 second) burst then turns off for roughly ten seconds and does the short burst of power again and again. The computer was on when it got wet. I need some advice, does this sound like just a power supply problem or something more sinister. Cheers.

You've replaced the graphics card? Is this a known good graphics card? Hate to troubleshoot from the angle of water damage only to find out the new graphics card is the problem.

As for the power supply, it definitely could be. There is a signal coming off of the ATX connector known as Power Good. This signal lets the motherboard know that the power is good so that the motherboard knows it's OK to turn on if PS ON becomes active (power switch is pushed). So it could be that as long as there is no load the power supply is telling the motherboard that it's ready to turn on. You press the power button and shortly after it comes on and a load is placed on it, the power supply can't handle the power and shuts off.

There is also a possibility that the motherboard sustained damage as a result. Both your graphics card and / or power supply could have damaged the motherboard when water hit them. I'm not saying for sure that it is, but it's a possibility.

So really we need to know if the new graphics card is a known good card.

Also if you have a spare power supply, it couldn't hurt to give it a try.

I got an ASUS getforce GT630 would that be a suitable replacement with a 600W power supply? I guess I need to find a replacement to try at least hey.
Thanks

That statement is a little unclear, your saying that you have a 630 as a replacement. Are you also saying that the possibly damaged PSU is 600W? Or are you saying you have a spare 600W PSU?

Yes if you can find a replacement, or borrow one from a friend, it'll help narrow down the problem. Also if I'm right in assuming that you have a GT630 to try as a replacement, you need to know that it works. Try in another system like dirty mentioned.
