I have recently encountered an issue with my computer. Ill explain what exactly happened.

I was playing BF4 and streaming at the same time. Few hours in my computer just shut down and would not turn on with the power button. I unplugged everything and re plugged it all back in then the computer would turn on. Started to play and stream again and with in an hour it shut down again and wouldn't turn on. I went to bed and 10 hours later went to turn on the computer. The computer would not turn on until everything was unplugged and plugged back in. During the time it would not turn on. I could see the green power light on my GPU.

I also have been streaming other games and have not had any issues. It could honestly be BF4 causing the issues. I will stream/test other games to see what happens.

I just need a little help on trouble shooting to find the issue. What would be the easiest process on trouble shooting if its my psu/mb/cpu causing shut downs.

And to be honest I only think its when I play BF4.

Here is what I have for psu.

Hi there!

Sorry to see you've had issues. I took a look at that PSU on Newegg and I have to be honest and say "Bugger". Judging from the negative reviews I've found littered around it seems that 75% of customers with that unit ended up sending it back. It seems to be extremely poorly put together with reports of low voltages, burnouts and entire cables coming away from the unit. If I were you I would try and source another PSU and test your system with that and DO NOT put that Apevia one back in.

Hi there! this could definitely be a psu issue even though a 700 w should do nicely, this a very suspiciously cheap 700 psu. Also does frame rate drop before crash or is it abrupt. Also play some bf after stabilizing your graphics card ( de-overclock) and then see if it crashes. report back to me and I will help.

Thanks. I have actually had this psu for almost 2 years after looking. I bought it 5/25/2012 so I will for sure try a new one. Which really sucks because I was hoping to pass this on to my kids build.

Thanks for replying. There is no drop in frames. It just shuts down with no freezing. Just acts as if I pulled the plug out on it.

The shutdown is most likely being initiated by the PC itself to save itself from being toasted by a terrible PSU.

EDIT: Fixed this post, lol.

First up I don't know what hardware you have, so this might be underpowered, but I'd recommend this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... I run an Antec in my HTPC and my Fiance runs an Antec in her i5 gaming rig and both run beautifully, quietly and without issue.

Hi again!

Sorry for the late reply but I'm in Germany so I'm a little ahead of you :)  The PSU I linked you should be fine, unless you plan on adding a second graphics card at any point. Total draw from your system, at peak usage, should not exceed 490 watts which means that 620watt unit will be more than enough for your needs without breaking the bank or skimping on features.

So I did some gaming this morning. My gpu drivers started to crash. So wonder if this is result of not enough power from the psu?

Lol that is weird.

What I posted was this morning while gaming. My GPU drivers crashed and that was about it. So this is something new that has happened with the shut downs. Also I can feel the computer be a bit slugish as welll loading games. Seems slower with load times now.

AdmiralDonut is probably correct in his assessments, and the more you play with that Apevia brick, the more likely things will get damaged, especially under a heavy load gaming. Bad power on the 3.3 or 12 V rails can cause all of the problems you are having.
Check out Tier 5 in this link.
Tier 5 - Other than the units listed above for any of these brands, NOT RECOMMENDED. Replace ASAP if you have one.
http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx
Continuing to use that PSU is putting your entire system at risk of destruction.
The Antec Admiral linked is really good PSU, better then the CX you linked; might be a little more $$$ but how much would it cost to replace your mobo, GPU and/or CPU?

Gav0409, before you spend your hard earned money: If you can't find the Antec or CX unit we linked, see what they have and repost with the make and model of the one you want to buy. The Thermaltake units I have seen at BB are not in the top tiers, and the Dynex line of psu's are tier 5 like your Apevia.

So best buy currently has this one in stock. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/650-watt-atx-power-supply/3...$abcat0507009&cp=1&lp=7#tab=overview

That one i can go and pick up right away. That way I can avoid any further issues with my computer. Or would it just be worth it to just order the one AdmiralDonut posted.

Hey guys I have the new PSU installed.

-I did an hour or so of streaming BF4 no shut down. How ever the game did seem to be a bit choppy(could be the new nvidia drivers).

-I will be doing a longer stream of BF4 to see how it really goes. Im going to be reinstalling the gpu drivers again. Because playing my other game infestation survivor stories(The Warz) the drivers crash.

So far no shut down while playing BF4. I will let you know later on tonight how game play goes during BF4

Great ! Keep in mind that BF4 is still quite buggy; the choppiness may have nothing to do with your PC.

Glad you got everything fixed up! As nostall says, some of the choppiness in BF4 may well be the fault of the game itself, so don't be overly alarmed :)  I hope everything continues going well.

A little clarification: What do you mean when you tell us "the video drivers crashed" or "the drivers crashed?"
What notice are you getting?

That sounds like an issue I had when I tried overclocking my GPU too far past tolerance. Perhaps he is doing the same?

Since his PSU is clearly not at fault, I'm going to say he has an OC on that card, and with the new PSU being of much higher quality and the voltages being accurate (compared to the hideous old PSU), the OC is no longer stable. A reset back to stock is in order I'd bet :)

Sorry guys I was not being notified of these posts.

This is my current gpu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
I run it as stock. I use the gpu tweak program to track temps but do not change the profiles.

All that would happen is screens would go black and then kick back on saying the drivers have crashed then recovered and then go back to normal.

Testing with new psu

Since I have installed the new psu I have not had a driver crash nor bf4 shut down on me.

Actually while playing bf4 before new psu I would push 60c or little higher on my gpu. Now im pushing 50c since new psu and have not changed settings.

Also I have removed and all drivers for my gpu and did fresh install of it.

So far everything is running good. I have not testing bf4 while streaming though. I have been streaming ISS(Infestation aka the warz) if you know that game its horrible and runs horrible. I have been streaming that just fine.

I will report back this weekend of further testings. Also thanks for choosing the best answer. I wanted to do it after all my testing but you did it anyways.

Thanks,

Hey fella, glad to hear things are going well for you :)  Sounds like you must have been getting some serious voltage fluctuations through the PCI-E plug that was causing your card to flutter and crash the drivers. Let us know how things go once you've done some streaming though and if its ok, choose either of nostall or my answers as the correct one :)

Thanks everyone for the help.

The psu is working great.

-BF4 plus streaming have not had any shut downs
-ISS(The warz) no issue while streaming
-Notice temps are 7c-10c lower while streaming and playing BF4

I am no longer having the shut down issues.

That is a nice thing to login to. I'm glad the problem has been solved fella, there's not much worse than having PC issues and not being sure where the fault is :/  Good luck with the game streaming, I hope all goes well from now on and thank you for selecting my answer, it's a little thing but it means a lot to a Toms noob like me :)
