Hi,

My SONY VAIO crashed and I got this black screen when it restarts saying "Operating System Not Found" in white letters. I tried fixing it by setting my laptop back to factory settings. I had to re-install Windows 7 and was doing all the updates when it restarted and the "Operating System Not Found" message reappeared. Any info as to what might be the cause or what I can do to fix it?
I thought wiping it out and going back to factory settings would work, but no such luck apparently.
Also, how do I get to BIOS on a SONY VAIO? I keep seeing people post about that?

It seems like your boot device (most likely a mechanical HDD) is failing.

One thing you could try is access the HDD bay and try removing and reseating it. It's presumably a SATA drive, maybe you've gotten dust or corrosion isolating some of the pins intermittently. However it's probably the device itself.

I'm not exactly sure on a Sony VAIO, but usually the enter the BIOS you hit DEL, or F10 to get in. Those are the two most common. This has to be done shortly after you see the screen come on.

It's asking me for a BIOS Password when I try to get into it. Is that password my user password I use to log in, or another one completely? I never set a BIOS password myself.

If you've never set one just hit ENTER and see if that works.
