Howdy people!

My gfs PC burned out due to a power surge so we're going to be doing an unexpected budget build that is kind of restricted in terms of cash (it was kind of unexpected)

Anyway I'm looking for advice.

We've got a good HDD lying around so no need for that and we do have a case - no need for that either.

Since we're on a budget I was thinking of going for some AMD APU like the AMD A6-6400K X2, Dual Core, HD 8470D, 3.90GHz, FM2, an A75 MB of some sort, 4 gigs of 1600 mhz ram (probably kingston or corsair) and a 430 watt PSU.

I also want to be able to buy her a GPU and some RAM later on.

Is the A6 a wise decision, keeping in mind it won't be used for any heavy duty games?

What is a good mobo for this CPU?

Or should I look at some other CPU like an i3 and still use its onboard graphics? Any advice is welcome.

Best regards,

UPDATE: As long as league of legends and Hearthstone run properly I think she will be happy.

The budget is around 300-400 USD (I do have a windows licence so that's not something that should be included)

The main question is - can the i3 run LoL at a reasonable frame rate until we get a GPU later? Or should I just go for the AMD APU?

UPDATE 2: Around my parts the A-10 that you have in the AMD build costs 60 bucks more than on Amazon or NewEgg.

That's why I usually don't give out budgets.

What budget are you looking at? Here's a decent A10 system.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A55M-DS2 Micro ATX FM2 Motherboard ($42.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: GeIL EVO POTENZA 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($64.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($29.99 @ Newegg)

Will you be doing any gaming at all on the system? The i3 is stronger as far as CPU power, but the GPU is much better in the AMD APU chips. Here's an idea of what you're looking at with an Intel setup. I went with 8GB of RAM because 4GB doesn't go very far, especially when you have to share the RAM with the on-board GPU.
