Where is the registration number for my windwos 8 software

Window 8 has asked me to update to windows 8.1
the first thing they ask is to put in my registration number
I don't know where to find that information on my computer.

Help where can I find the registration number for the windows 8

Is there an "asset tag" on the outside or inside of the case? It's a sticker that Dell puts on their machines that has some info on it. You may be looking for the Windows "Product Key" that is 5 group of 5 letters and digits.

Or there should be a Dell serial number on that sticker that you can enter on the Dell support web site that will give you the info on your machine.

Or there is a Windows "Product ID" shown in the Start->Computer->Properties window in Wndows 7 but I don't know how to find that in Windows 8. You can look at these. Maybe they will help you.

Still looking for an answer

Sorry this has me going in circles.
I did find not a way of recovering the product key on my computer.
Dell does not give a windows 8 disk with the product key written on it on it.

this does not seem to be the answer with any of these links.
Where is the product code/ keys for windows 8 on a desktop computer

You didn't mention that it was a Dell machine in your original post.
