Applying thermal paste?

Hi guyz, this is a very noob question but... do you need to apply a thermal paste on the cpu first before installing the h80i or do you just use the thermal thats already on the end of the h80i? i mean the default one..

The only reason would be to get a better thermal paste. Most of the time the stuff that comes with the cooler is good enough, but there may be some that are better. I always use AC5 instead of what comes with the cooler.

I think most people, including myself, would say if you want the best cooling, remove the stock paste and put some aftermarket paste on it. There are far better pastes out there than the coolers come with.

well, i currently have an i7 4770k and i'm planning to raise it up to 3.9 only! should i still get the best thermal compound?

The i7 4XXX lines are known to run hotter than the i7 3XXX lines. It is totally up to you but the cooler your processor is the longer it will run for you.

I could replace the thermal paste if i was you, usually the stock paste is rubish.
