Hello, I am new here but I had my eye on this community for a long time for all the solutions I found here.

I want to upgrade my graphics card, since I started to struggle with games and I am feeling that the GPU is dragging me down.

Specs:
-Phenom II x4 925 2.8
-6 gb ram ddr3
-gtx 260 super OC edition 896mb 448 bit
-source chieftec 750w
-win 7 x64
-1920x1080 display
-motherboard has PCI 2.0

I have this configuration for almost 5 years and it served me very good. But I am feeling I do not have enough video ram anymore. I will build a new pc in the future, but not soon since I do not have the money. But from a month payment I plan to upgrade the GPU and play games at 60 fps regardless if it's on max quality or medium.

So, I had my eye on gtx 650 ti 2gb or maybe even 750ti since both are at same price. Will it run ok with my current configuration?

Thank you in advance!

Before you upgrade ANYTHING, identify whether the CPU or GPU is your current bottleneck. You don't want to waste money upgrading the wrong thing.

What games are you playing that are not performing as expected?

What is the specific model of your motherboard? This is usually silk-screened right on the PCB in white.

GIGABYTE MA77OT-UD3P

Thief for example is working "decent" at very low settings from lack of video ram. BF4 works at 50 fps medium (more or less). In the future I want to play Witcher 3 , GTA5 and Metal Gear 5 when they get ported to pc. I just need something that can give me quality and performance for a reasonable price, until I build a new pc.

I don't really know how bottleneck works, that's why I came here.

I never used AMD before. Not sure if I am confortable with it.

I was not recommending AMD, in this case, even though there is nothing wrong with them. Most of my cards are AMD. I was just showing a comparison of the GTX 260 vs newer cards. The GTX 750 ti, is close to 7850 speeds and you can see, from what I linked, how much faster that is. There wasn't a direct comparison to the 750ti and the 260, so I gave the best comparison I could give.

What about gtx 660? I think 760 would be to much and not a smart temporary investment.
And from what you posted it seems like 750 TI could keep up 1-2 years. In the end what do you recommend?

http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=883&gid2=875&compare=geforce-gtx-750-ti-vs-geforce-gtx-650-ti

Ok, so maybe I should go for 750 TI. For both I see they recommend to have 8 gb of ram, is it true? I have only 6 gb, 1x4 + 1x2. And will it run games with direct x 11? They say 750ti is a gpu for notebooks, and below medium on pc...

I might consider HD 7850 or 7870 just to test amd gpu's also, and also seems to be a little better than 750 ti. Someone said 7950 would be better but I don't think that is recommended for my system, and it's also more expensive. I'm so cinfused now...
