Hi Guys , new to the forum. I'm in the market for a gaming laptop and was set on the Lenovo U530 at best buy. My question was can this computer run most modern games ? I've also been looking at the IdeaPad y510p but I really like the portability of the U530 , the Y510p seems like a beast.

4th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-4500U mobile processor
1.8GHz (with Turbo Boost up to 3.0GHz)
System Memory (RAM) 8GB - 1TB w/ 16GB solid state
NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M w/ 2GB of memory.

Thanks.

I guess I want a hybrid of portability and gaming. I like the above mentioned laptop because its fairly light and thin. I know the y510p is a superior computer but I think its a bit too thick & heavy for me. know what i mean boss >?

As long as your expectations about graphics quality aren't overly inflated, the U530 should be an okay gaming device. The only problem would be the slow (for gaming) hard drive RPMs, so your loading times might be a bit long.

The specs look good. You can run modern games with that rig. What game are you planning to play on that device? Coz like what James Mason said, the loading time of some games might be affected. To set an example: When I'm playing League of Legends, my desktop (i3 processor, 8 G RAM) takes a few seconds later compared to some of my teammates running on i5 or i7. But when we are playing MMORPG, say Eclipse War, we don't see any difference in the load time.

Hey dude , I really only want to play day z standalone and arma 3 , I'm pretty much going to use the console for everything else. I'm going back to school and really want the portability of the ultrabook .

since you are comfortable with Acer V5-573PG-9610 size, u may need to consider DDR5 memory for the GPU . Trust me i never used Touch screen in my laptop, since i bought it. u can trade touch screen for a better GPU.

If you want acer one only, then YES it can play ARMA 3 in almost high settings, as it is only HD screen.

Inorder to achieve the slim design acer laptop sacrifices certain things..
1)1.8Ghz base clock cpu, even though cpu is capable of reaching to 3Ghz they never really reach 3Ghz in all cores. Most of the time when more than one core engaged u will be lucky to reach 2.5Ghz in all cores. It is due to temps and low power profile of laptop.
2)Same case with GPU, they dont really stays @100% performance for long time.

Finally specs seems to be good on paper but in reality u cant utilize the real power from the hardware. Bcz the laptop is designed for entertainment and not for gaming.

But i i recommend you this one,

With 2Gig of video, I'd say you tone done the display settings of Arma III. You'll experience FPS drop during engagement with just 2Gig. :)
