I'm trying to enable AHCI on a AMD MCP61PM-GM motherboard

I'm trying to enable ACHI on a computer with a AMD processor and MCP61PM-GM motherboard. I tried changing the registry value to 0 and rebooting, but there was still no listing for AHCI, only IDE and RAID (no extras). I read something somewhere about changing another value to zero, also under the same area, something like Iastorev , but didn't try that because I didn't want to find myself chasing a whole other problem. From what I read, it is possible to enable AHCI on this computer , but I just can't figure out how. Others with the same motherboard say they do it, but never offer how. Isn't there a source for checking what motherboards support AHCI since this seems to be a very very common question. I've looked through numerous groups/sites, but only see some very useless answers.

Solution
The ET1331g uses the NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE chipset which does not support AHCI.

GeForce 6150SE (MCP61, also known as C61) is an updated, single-chip version of the Nvidia GeForce 6100. The nForce400/405/410/430 refer to nForce4 based southbridges which are used together with GeForce 6100/6150 series northbridges to form a chipset with integrated graphics.

As for some documentation of Nvidia chipset AHCI support. AHCI features, which are supported by the newest nForce chipsets from MCP65 up. As I have stated above, your system is GeForce 6150SE (MCP61, also known as C61)...

If the Motherboard does not have AHCI listed, you will not get it no matter what you change. (it appears to be a laptop , Gateways so I'm not surprised)
That said, just pick Raid & you should be all set.

Thanks for your post. This is an emachines/acer ET1331g. I didn't include that info because of it being a motherboard issue. My laptop is Toshiba and I had the same issue (didn't show up in the list), but made changes to the registry and BIOS (upgrade) and finally got AHCI on that one. Per the experts (don't know if I'm allowed to mention the other groups), it doesn't necessarily show up on the list on a pre-built even if the motherboard supports AHCI. That's why I'm trying to find a definitive answer for AHCI support on this motherboard (which others with the board say is supported) and the procedure for enabling it (BIOS update/upgrade, etc.) RAID won't suffice for what I'm trying to do, which is installing OSX on a pc. Already overcome the AMD hurdle and now, just need to fix AHCI. Thanks

Thanks for the most excellent reply. Very, very informative, especially after all the searching I'd done on my own. Even though it didn't give me the ultimate answer I wanted, it was GREAT!

(1) As to the second link, even though it won't solve my problem, is it worth using the performance pack that's listed for my motherboard? I had thought of upgrading to a quad-core, but don't know if it's worth it (with this motherboard), but hoping this might boost performance instead.
(2) To tell the truth, I really want to build my own, but am considering buying one of those barebones systems like the
AMD FX-8350/ASUS 970/8GB/1TB/DVDRW/1GB VGA/600W/CS at Tiger. But, I'm concerned about AMD v Intel as well as the particular motherboard here (•ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0 AM3+). Unfortunately, I have to do what I can afford.

Thanks again for your answer about the AHCI question. Many thanks. And, thanks in advance if you are kind enough to answer my followups.
