Unable to physically swap boot drives between laptops

I have unsuccessfully searched pretty much in all relevant sources and have reached my wits end. Fingers crossed now...

I have two functional laptops: an old eMachines e527, and a new HP Pavilion 15-e037cl. Both are running Windows 8.1.

The eMachines now has a 1TB HGST model HTS 721010 SATA drive (which is the second successful HD upgrade on this machine).

The HP has a 750GB WD7500BPVT drive.

My plan was to swap the two drives: install the 1TB drive in the HP and the 750GB drive in the eMachines. Moving the 1TB into the HP went off without a hitch and is working fine.

Not so with the 750GB into the eMachines. When it tries to boot, it fails with the following message:

"Intel UNDI, PXE-2.0 (build 083) copyright ( c) 1997-2000 Intel coorporation
for Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller v2.0.2.7(11/02/10)
check cable connection!
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key"

I.e., the 750GB drive is not recognized in the boot process. The attempt to boot from the network is a red herring.

Yes, I have checked the eMachines BIOS (which is the latest version, 1.06) -- the drive is recognized there.

Yes, I have re-seated the HD.

Yes, the HD is first in the boot sequence.

I have connected the 750GB drive to the new (HP) machine as a second, USB drive. It is recognized, and all the contents are visible.

I would like to avoid reformatting the 750GB at all cost. I have ghosted the drive, so I am willing to make any suggested down-and-dirty changes to the boot area to make it work.

Any thoughts/recommendations are enormously appreciated!

Then your problem is the interface type that is set up on the Hp for the hard drive.
Differs from the Emachines.

What I mean is when you install windows and it creates a boo-table partition on the hard drive its set up on the interface or mode selected for it.

Example Hp : Windows installed with Sata, Ahci mode. option enabled as the mode.
Emachines. The emachines has to be set to the same interface mode.

Sata or Ahci. it will then see the boot partition of the 750gb drive and load windows.

In other words change the interface mode in the bios for the hard drive for the E machines laptop. Its either sata or Ahci mode one of the two will alow the drive to detect, boot, and load windows.

The eMachines BIOS has two SATA modes: AHCI mode, and IDE mode. Neither one works...

since laptops use different partitions like HP has 4( "HP tools" "System Reserve" and such. to repair and restore windows)
e machines probably has different layout messing with boot

if you have extra space and other computer you can ghost them over better possibly. (ghost to file image them)

ghost complete drives,

Ghost just the C: system partitions from each.
(thou i don't know how much space you use or if there other partitions you created so hard to gues)

so this just an idea



with this you might preserve original laptop hidden partitions layout so they match system,
but still have them swapped physically
