Hi, i have GA-Z77-HD4 motherboard with a windows 8.1 64-bit OS. However i am only using around 3 GB of my ram.

I was confused as to what was going on, but then i found the gigabyte site for my motherboard and it stated that it has a windows 32-bit limitation.

under memory it stated " due to a 32-bit limitation, the amount of memory displayed will be less than the amount installed"

The GA-Z77-HD4 has dual channel and can support 32gbs of ram, does this mean that i use all of the ram i have, but it will only say that i am using 4gbs in task manager?

32 bit consumer versions of Windows have memory remapping disabled and compact the entire physical address space into a 4GiB range even though the physical address space is much larger (typically 36-48 bits). This improves compatibility, but not only does it limit the amount of SDRAM to 4GiB, it also means that hardware mapped addresses will displace SDRAM, lowering the total amount that appears to be installed.

This limitation is not present on 32 bit editions of Windows Server, and is not present on any 64 bit version of Windows.

If referring to the

"under memory it stated " due to a 32-bit limitation, the amount of memory displayed will be less than the amount installed""

it's simply information telling you that if you are running a 32 bit version of Windows, it will normally not use the full 4GB, i.e. most 32bit Win rigs can use up to about 3.5 or so

None of this affects you since you are running 64bit Windows
