Hey everyone. I recently updated a laptop from Windows Vista (suck!) to Windows 8 (32-bit). Ever since doing so I am unable to get audio through the HDMI cable when trying to view content on my HDTV. The video works great. Before upgrading to Windows 8 this was not a problem whatsoever. The laptop is a Dell Studio 1735. I tried updating the graphics drivers, but to no avail. Anyone dealt with a similar problem and been successful? It seems like a common issue right now, and I can't seem to find a fix. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

That laptop came with 2 GPU options. Does yours have the intel GPU or the AMD GPU. Either way start with the newest driver.

Once installed plug in the HDMI. Then go to control panel and the sound. Select the HDMI audio as the defualt device.

If your system recognizes the HDTV, and it is set as the default device, try messing with the "Default Format" settings in the "Advanced" tab of the HDTV when you select it under the "Sounds" control panel.

I had that problem, and I suspect that Windows 8 changes the default format to a frequency that may somehow be incompatible with your TV.

If your system does not recognize the HDTV, there are a bunch of different help sites online for that. Unfortunately (for you), I did not have that issue, so I can't help you there.
