I have a AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE overclocked @ 3.6
AMD Radeon HD 7770
corsair 450 PSU
8gb DDR2
1080p HD 40" Monitor

Basically i want to play things like assassins creed and most newer ps3 games also dayz sometimes on mid to high settings.. Is this possible?

Solution
You should be able to bump up the settings for sure at 720p, that would be a good solution :) Just play around with them a bit and find the sweet spot where you are happy with the experience. Only reason to get the PS3 console would be if there are exclusive games on there you want to play. All the games on PS3 are rendered in 720p anyway :) I have a PS3 because I like a lot of the games on there that don't release on PC like Uncharted, God of War, Infamous, etc.

Would i be better off playing on 720p at higher setting?

Or even better off just getting a ps3 console?

So what if i just upgrade my GPU would i be able to play 1080p and if so what card would you recommend for this rig?
My friend has a GTX 660 that he might sell me for a good price. Or would that card bottle neck my CPU?

If you get that GPU you will probably need a new Power Supply :-/ and your CPU might hold it back a bit as well. I would honestly just stick with what you have, your games will still look great at 720p, and you can play 1080p, you'll just have to drop to lower settings. Both experiences will be fine imo.

edit: after double checking your PSU would be able to run the 660, but only just. I agree with logainofhades :)

Thanks Man.. So if i was to get that should i invest in a better PSU? just to be safe? and will the bottle necking the CPU be noticeable in game play?

That PSU has enough amps to supply what you are running, but if you were to add anything else I would suggest bumping up to 500W or 550W. As far as the bottle necking goes, it doesn't slow you down, it just keeps the GPU from getting the max frames it could because the CPU can't keep up. So a GTX 660 will perform much better than your 7770, you might get a bit more performance out of it with a better CPU, but it probably wouldn't be to the point you would notice, unless the game is particularly CPU intensive, like large multiplayer maps on BF4, or Crysis 3.

So i guess my last question is would the 660 handle 1080p on high setting?

Thanks for all of your help
