Dell Dimension 3000 XP, new SATA optical drive

I purchased a new LG Mdisc optical drive with SATA cables...pc has IDE. I also purchased an IDE to SATA converter (40 pin) & cables. The power comes on, but nothing else happens. The OD is not recognized. What do I need to do?

did you install any needed drivers for the IDE to SATA converter?

I was guessing that would be something I needed to do, but didn't know for sure. I'm no tech, so what do I look for? Thanks for the reply.
  2. Would I need a card plus the IDE to SATA adapter? Thanks for your reply.
  3. What the make and model of the IDE to SATA converter?
Personally I don't like converter as it is usually hit or miss.

For a PCI sata adapter, you connect the m-disc drive to it. it doesn't use IDE at all, but most likely you won't be able to boot from it.

  5. This is what I purchased. Syba SD-ADA50016 IDE/SATA Converter Bi-directional IDE to SATA. No IDE cable used now.

some of the reviewer said it might be plug in upside down on the IDE

  10. There's only 1 way to plug it in. Is there something else that I need to do? I can't see the new cd rom on any of the lists.
