Hello there! I have a customer that recently asked me to update and speed up his computer. It's a Windows 7 Home Premium PC that had Office 2000 installed - I offered to install Office 2003 free of charge. So I installed it.

Now, when I try to click on a .doc file, Word isn't the default program and the .doc file tries to open with WordPad, which doesn't work properly. I click on "Let me choose a default program" in the dialogue box, but Word isn't listed there. I also tried click "Browse" and I navigated to the Office 2003 installation folder and clicked Word, when I click it, it has no effect and Word still does not show in the list of Programs.

I am confused?

Thanks,
Thomas

Yes, I can open all the Office 2003 programs. But to open a .doc file, I have to click the "Open" icon and navigate to the word file I want.

I would rather not have this issue as it's very confusing for the customer, who is over 80!

Thanks,
Thomas

I found this scenario on two machines here at the office this morning.

Open Word. Run Help, Detect and Repair.

If fixed both of them. Not sure what broke them. Suspect it was a windows update.
