I have a Z77A-G45 MSI board with a i5-3470 @ 3.20 GHz processor. I don't know what would be the best way to go for upgrading the stock heatsink and what would work well/fit.

Solution
depends on your space for a cooler.

If you've got upto 14CM then a Coolermaster TX3 could cool good.

If you've got upto 16CM then a Cooler Master 212 EVO would be best.

I'm curious as why you're upgrading though, the stock cooler should keep this CPU cool fine.

Unless of course it's just due to a noise issue.
