Wait a minute buddy, I am currently in the same boat as you. My motherboard or CPU died (AM2+ so neither can be replaced, cheaply without going used). I was reminded that since you bought a box computer the OS is linked to the motherboard and if you change it, there is a good chance it will not work. You might also need to get a new OS. Since it is 6 to 7 years old it might be cheaper to rebuild or get a new box system. So you will need a MB, CPU, Memory(DDR3) and a OS. Just trying to help

I have na unopened copy of windows 8.1 already i was going to install before my system went to hell.

The combo i was looking at is a MOBO+CPU combo, so all i would need is 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM

Glad you had the OS. Just didn't want you to get in a bind. Just curious which version of W8.1 do you have 32 or 64 bit. Cause when you get your memory remember 32 bit is maxed at 4 gigs whereas 64 bit is 32 gigs on that board. Also double check when I pulled up that micro center claimed that board was out of stock.

my original MOBO was made by ASUS, the new one is also an ASUS, both Micro ATX boards.

Im curious, what does maximum memory per slot mean? im thinking of getting one 8 gig DDR3 stick and the specs for the new board says "Maximum memory supported per slot - 32 GB"

will one slot hold an 8 gig stick?
