Hello,

I wanted to connect an older laptop I have to ASUS VG248QE. Problem is my laptop has only an VGA output. However, ASUS VG248QE does not have an VGA input ports, it only has HDMI, DVI and Displayport. So I have bought the following Displayport to VGA adapter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2HH7G0/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and connected my laptop to the monitor. However I am getting a black screen. My laptop detects the monitor but I am not seeing anything. Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Yes you are,

A blue 15pin Dsub from a laptop is an analog signal.
And your monitor will only accept digital source not analog. It cannot decode an analog signal in any way.

And why it cannot display the image via the 15pin dsub of the laptop.

I see now, so basically the adapter I got converts a digital signal to an analog signal and not the reverse. So this will work if I connect the adapter to a displayport on a graphic card to connect to a monitor that only has VGA input.

Is there no way to connect my laptop to my ASUS monitor?
