I currently own a Dell XPS 8700 with a graphics card vaguely described as a Radeon HD 7500 series. It has a 3.4GHz Intel i7-4770 CPU.

I am looking to upgrade the card, hopefully under $200. I also understand that the PSU is (probably) a 460w, so that may need to upgraded as well, depending on the new card requirements.

I am having a hard time figuring out what would actually constitute an upgrade, especially since the existing card is listed in the specs so ambiguously.

Please help.

you wont find a card for $200 that will need a bigger psu than the dell 460w. also anything in the 200 range will be a significant upgrade over a 7500 series, which is a relatively weak card.

I will recommend the 750ti priced at 179.99. Very power efficient and other cards around the same range are much more power hungry.

I was actually looking at the EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti FTW w/ EVGA ACX Cooler card, but I seem to be having a hard time figuring out what the PSU requirement would be. Will this run on the existing 460w without compromising other systems or should I simply upgrade to a 600w?

I had a feeling that thing was junk, doesn't seem to run anything well. I wasn't sure though, since I've been using a laptop (even for games) and this is the first time I've actually had a desktop with a graphics card in years.

You should have no problem running the 750ti with the 460w PSU. It is the lowest power consumption card out there for its performance. I think recommended wattage is 300w for the reference card so you should be perfectly fine.
