What, if anything, is everybody doing about the end of XP support by Mirosoft?
I have one XP machine that I keep around for legacy software and game play. I do go online occassionally. It is protected by ESET anti-virus and some other programs so I personally don't think there is much to worry about but what do you power users think? Thanks much.

there's too much ground on xp for to be thrown out that quick. and just because it stops support doesn't mean it's going to stop working, it still have a lot of years left on it. it's established it self as the most popular and stable platform so far, too much technology went on during this time for it to be thrown out. i mean seriously, support didn't really help THAT much as far as compatibility goes. it only helped a few things that went on during this time. so support isn't necessarily going to be a huge factor. i was looking at windows 9 just now and it's going to be great, but i just can't seem to think i shouldn't move away from xp because of this. i'm a power user that uses dual xeon processors and i don't think xp going anywhere soon. it'll be along while until i upgrade my os of xp. in fact, i would rather go to macintosh before i upgrade to microsoft shenanagins of ruining vista and releasing it early and going against bill gates. it was so slow the initial release, just terrible. although 8 is a good os, and 9 is probably going to be better, i still think xp is the winner.

and yes your right, there's not much to worry about.

I really have not run XP since dual booting the early Windows 7 Beta but if I was keeping a box around I would not connect it to the internet. Just download anything you want to install on it to a USB stick or burn it to a CD or DVD.

I am completely opposite from you actually. I love Windows 7 and hate 8/8.1 although 8.1 is better. XP was great for years though but 7 in my opinion is an all around huge improvement. Don't get me wrong 8 is a fine OS but it's just so different I still have to think before I do things that were second nature on the older versions of Windows.

Edit: Windows user since 3.1 BTW.

I just use familiar websites and practice safe browsing habits. I've got old machines with Windows 9x and 2000 that haven't been patched in years with no viruses. Just use common sense and you'll probably be fine.

i totally agree with xcom46, he has the right idea. +1 to that. Vista and ME are clearly the worst os's ever made. i had the experience to back that up. and yes it is more stable. xp was around during good technology changes. i don't get why people disagree with the fact xp is still good.
