Hi I want to oc my CPU to 3.2-3.5 ghz. Is this a reasonable oc? Btw I'm a noob.

Specs:
Amd fx 8120
Gigabyte ga-880gm-usb3
16gb g.skill
120gb ssd
RAID 10 2tb set up (4 500gb hdd)
Amd radeon hd 6750
650w corsair tx psu
DVD drive

Corsair hydro h100i or skythe shuriken, whichever is better

That is a very reasonable overclock. You should be able to hit that no problem.

wait, you have this built, and it works? well, if the model of mobo you posted is correct, then you shouldnt even have an fx cpu in it. if you havent bought it yet, then get a different mobo, and i would recomend an fx 8300 or 8320, much better than 8120 and same price.

He is correct. I didnt look at those specs. I assumed you were just linking your build.

As for your question, the H100i will be the better CPU cooler but it will come at a price premium over the skythe. It really depends on your needs. Personally though, I like the H100i if you can afford it.

One step at a time. First, if you have used both, use which one is cooler. Im sure you will see that the H100i will be a lot cooler. Second, I think the upgrade is a waste of money. Hey, if you got it and want to spend it great but the 9370 isnt worth the price tag. Third, if you do get the 9370, you are going to want a new motherboard. The 9370 is a power hog and a lot of motherboards dont support it power wise. Look at a http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_990FX/ or a http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_V_FORMULA/. Both are great with amazing overclock ability and are stable as can be.

do not use a fx 9xxx in that mobo. you arent even supposed to be using any fx in there. the 220watt fx 9xxx will fry your mobo if it even boots. but if your fx 8120 works right now, it should be ok, but on the manufactures website it says that with the latest bios update, you can use the fx 4130, but thats the only fx it lists.

The 8350 will have a good performance at a reasonable price. If you are dead set on an AMD upgrade, I would get that. The 9xxx series is just overpriced for the performance. You are better off going intel at that point. As for motherboards, you still want a new one. Im sure there is a gigabyte that supports it. Just make sure before you buy it.

The reason I went AMD with this build (I'm doing a haswell i5 build in about 6 mos) is because I was able to get like 6x more bang for my buck, plus everything i got was on sale. For the $300 I spent on the mobo, RAM, and cpu I cuold have gotten an i3, 8gb and a cheapo mobo. I got the RAM on an auction on ebay new...
