FPS issues after having maintenance done to computer.

I'm a frequent League of Legends player and play on an Asus N75-sf laptop which generally can run the game extremely well.

About a month ago, I started noticing that the computer would get very hot while playing the game, so I downloaded the Nvidia system monitor program to check my temperatures while gaming. When the temperatures peaked, my cpu would hit 80-82 C, which is obviously very high.

I played like this for a while, until my computer blue screened a few times, which scared me since I didnt want to damage any of the components. So I decided to take it to a store to have the thermal paste replaced, fan cleaned, and the rest of the thermal system checked. The guy also suggested that I raise the back of the laptop a little to allow proper air flow as the bottom of the laptop doesnt have many vents.

BEFORE I took my laptop to the store, I was able to consistently get 90-110 FPS while running League of Legends on medium - high graphics.

After the maintenance was done, my computer no longer goes above 50-60 C while gaming (Which is great!), but I now have serious FPS issues. It all seems rather weird, too.

Whenever i first load the game, I usually get to about 200 FPS. After 10-20 seconds, however, my FPS drop to the 70-90 range, and after about a minute or so, my FPS will continue to drop to about 30-50. During stages of the game where there is a lot happening, I usually get below 20 FPS, which makes the game completely unplayable considering I'm used to 100 FPS.

Another thing I noticed is that my fan kicks in rather loudly 20-30 secs into the game, and THAT is the specific moment when my frames just plummet. This even happens while running the game at the lowest possible settings.

I have an Nvidia GT 555M graphics card and an Intel (R) HD Graphics 3000. I have the High performance power plan on with my processor running set to 100% for both min and max values.

At this point I don't know what to do because, that I know of, nothing in my computer has changed other than the fact that it no longer overheats.

I have been forced to play against bots for the last 5 days simply because I'm not willing to ruin 9 other people's time because of my FPS issues.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Can graphics cards over heat that quickly?

I mean, the problem happens anytime i play the game. I could have turned on my computer after having it off the whole night and i still get the problem the first time I load the game up at the same exact time.

if the fan is kicking on and fps dropping like that then yes especially the way you said it as you was gettng 90 then 50 then 30 and lol shouldnt be that taxing. mostlikey they if they opend your lap top case you fix your cpu problem then they may have bumped or unseated the graphics card heatsink, regardless as they were the ones that most likely caused the problem with the gpu. i would take it back to them and show them this issue and try to get them to fix it for free since they most likely caused it

that is when your gpu is under stress and since it is dropping rapidly i would assume it is an issue with the gpu heatsink getting unseated or thermal paste issue as heat isnt getting dissapated from it
