I am looking for an adapter to transfer data from an IDE hard drive (from a broken Dell computer that ran Windows XP) via USB to a new computer. All the adapters I have found have a 2.5" adapter on one side with 44 (really 43) places for pins, and a 3.5" adapter with 40 places. The area to plug-into on my drive measures about 2.5", but only has 40 (really 39) pins. Am I missing something? Will the adapters I've seen work?

The 3.5" refers to the size of the platters in the drive. The connector itself is about 2" long.
