Coolant or Distilled Water

Question is i know Distilled Water is best used for watercooling but there is Inline Coolant Filters for Coolant but no one talks about them i am deciding if i want to use Coolant or Distilled Water for a up coming custom loop

with distilled water i have to buy a few things with it to make it a good liquid for my loop

but Coolant already comes with all that stuff in it plus it comes in nice colours

What i want to know even if i have Coolant Filters which i mean a Coolant Filter for each hole in the cpu heatsink and gpu heat sink and mobo heatsink and rez and rad so it blocks if anything is still in there blocks from going into any major part.

how long could that last until i have to flush out my system

or if i just got distilled how long until i have to flush distilled out

Giving out water cooling advice, and have never water cooled in your life? :pfff:

@batty251

I use 100% pure steam distilled water and nothing else at all, (No Silver Kill Coil even, Nada!) once every 3 months I siphon off and refill...

Thanks but i want to know the change out time between the 2 how long before you have to flush out the coolant and put in new coolant and how long with distilled water and would Coolant filters help with the how long you can have it in your system until you have to flush out and change the coolant

I am not aware about what to do, as i have never water cooled in my life, but it should be in the instructions somewhere. I just made previous post to help you choose your liquid.

I use 100% pure steam distilled water and nothing else at all, (No Silver Kill Coil even, Nada!) once every 3 months I siphon off and refill my reservoir with fresh steam distilled water, (If it needs it!), run the machine to cycle the fluid and do it again, and after about 3 reservoir siphon and refills, the water in the entire loop is completely refreshed with new.

Pure steam distilled water has the best conductive heat transfer over any of the coolants so why not use it 100% pure, no filters are needed, no corrosive mess if a leak occurs, you could drink it if you wanted to, but don't drink any of those coolants!

I am not the only water cooler running 100% pure steam distilled water in my loops, some coolants have caused serious problems in machines, turning to gel and blocking off water blocks, so why add possible trouble in the first place!

Special coolants is a money making business and they're out to get your money, they'll tell you their product is the best of the best, but where are they when the problems arise?

Steam distilled water can be picked up from a grocery store for about a dollar a gallon, just make sure it is 100% pure steam distilled water with zero additives.

More than likely if your computer is not sitting in direct sunlight you can extend the reservoir flushing past 3 months, as I am at 5 months since my last flush and my water is still crystal clear, no greenies growing inside, as direct sunlight promotes the algae growth, and my computer is not in direct sunlight.

Hope that helps you!

I am only giving advice to the facts of the liquid only, not on actual water cooling. I have people who do on the other hand have liquid cooling systems and have tried both distilled and coolant, with coolant on top. That is why I make the only recommendation I can and nothing else. I most certainly aren't giving advice for refilling and all as I don't do that as i have had no experience with it. I am with High end air coolers.

When advising others here at Toms, You should stick to what you actually know and have direct experience with!

If the only actual computer cooling experience you have under your belt, is with high end air coolers, stick to advising others regarding what you know!

Even if you get your information from some review, you do not know if the review was designed to promote some product, that's how the business world operates, sell the product, sell the product, sell the product, with the truth being irrelevant!

Some of us have discovered it's not what it's all painted up to be, and there's no sense in a water cooler spending any more than they have to, because someone said it was necessary with zero proof!

No actual offense to you is intended, I am responding off the information you supplied, if you don't cross the line you won't get challenged, so stick with what you know!

Good advice, i'll leave this thread with you!

But some people are saying they have their coolant in their system for up to 6 months and i know the stuff that builds up in the heat sinks but i would be using coolant filters which would minimize that and my pc dose sit in sunlight if i have my blinds open lol i am up for either a coolant or distilled but i want the one with most less amount of maintenance involved when you flush and how many times a year you flush it out for new stuff

i just want the one either coolant or distilled water the one that is changed out less and can be flushed out and cleaned in just in a hour or 2

How often I already covered as presently I've been running for about 5 months since my last flush and the water is still crystal clear.

I flush my system when my reservoir begins changing from clear to a greenish tint or any color other than clear, but my setup is not in sunlight at all, if any of your loop is exposed to sunlight then you'd need to simply add biocide and a silver killcoil.

Filters however are not necessary with a closed loop as each one adds flow restriction, and flow indicators are not necessary either, if your flow stops you'll know it because your machine will auto shut down to protect itself.

the filters i plan to get aren't actually small and don't really restrict unless there is gunk on the filters which is when i would stop and clean them and i know what you said about distilled water but i also want to hear from others as well.

since with distilled water you have to put in all that stuff in it and i have to find them outside of the computer store i am getting all my parts plus its remembering to put in how many drops and how much of this and that goes into the water seems a lot more maintenance then coolant but i don't own a water cooling pc so i don't know for the reason i am asking about which is better coolant or distilled so i do know.

but with distilled water if i did buy all the stuff that goes into the distilled water how long could it expect to last until i need to flush it out and replace it
