I just got a brand new HP Envy 15 with Windows 8.1. stock drive is samsung 5400 rpm hdd (1tb), so I bought a samsung 840 evo (250gb). I cloned the ssd using a USBenclosure and put her in.

When I booted up, it took 3 minutes of black screen (after login screen) before desktop showed. And this seems to be the case everytime I login. It either takes all this time stuck on a black screen (however I can press CTRL+ALT+ESC menu) or it seems to never load the screen at all, just a black screen.

Any ideas what the problem might be or what I should do?
Thanks for your

One thing you could check is to see if your partition is misaligned. Here's a link on how to check and fix if it is:

Could also try a Windows repair from DVD.

Well, Windows 8.1 came on my laptop, so I can't install it onto my SSD. I did originally try putting the SSD into my laptop and tried to boot Windows 7 from my disk drive, but that didn't work, I guess probably because of my computer's configured for Windows 8.1.

Ok, I'll try that. I also made recovery discs before I began the cloning process, so I might be able to try that as well.
