Hi everyone,

I searched through the previous threads about what I am about to ask so unless I've missed it i think this is a first.

Here is my situation:

I have a purchased copy of Mac OS X Mountain Lion and would like to obviously install it on my Windows based PC. However, I don't want this installation to slow down or modify my PC performance (other than take up some hard drive space). So I know that you can either make a Hackintosh and there are many guides on how to do that, or you can run Mac OS X on a virtual machine such as VMware workstation.

I have a working copy of VMware Workstation 9, and a retail version of Mac OS X Mountain Lion that is yet to be downloaded. So after all this typing my question is can I run my retail version of Mac OS X on VMware?

I know that I can download another image of the OS by torrent, however I would like the full Mac OS experience and be able to sign in with my apple ID, using the OS to the fullest.

One more question is if I was to make my computer a Hackintosh, how would it exactly affect my PC with regards to speed, space, and if I will still be able to use my PC with windows 8.1 pro normally?

Thank you all in advance for any solutions you may provide!

Solution
I would recommend against using the VM option for making a hackintosh, both the VM and your windows OS will suffer greatly for performance. I can only pray that you are using an Intel based processor, otherwise things get *more complicated.
Go to Tonymacx86.com and use the UniBeast method, either partition an existing hard disk or use seperate hard disk for the operating system. Currently I'm running a Mountain Lion 'Tosh using the Unibeast method for FCPx. Be warned, this is not for the fain of heart! And please, at least pay for the operating system, it's a cheap investment considering what you're getting. As for the Apple ID, I am fairly certain that it will not work in VM.
Dual Boot is the way to go. I'm running a 4GHz i7 and even...

Dual Boot is the way to go. I'm running a 4GHz i7 and even that can't handle OSx in VMware enough to run programs on the VM side.

Thank you for the quick reply.
Ok so I guess that rules out vmware as an option since it wwill make my pc suffer. I have already purchased the mountain lion os from the apple website, so I will go to that website and dual boot then using unibeast.

Question: if I purchase a new hard drive just for Mac and install it on that hard drive, it shouldn't affect my pc? Also, by doing it this way I will have a fully functioning Mac os x? Will it affect performance when I am using Windows, or does the computer not even flinch since it will be booted into Windows8.1 pro?

Sorry for all the questions, I just want to make sure i know everything about it before I go through with this hackintosh project!

Edit:

I am using an I5-4670k, Asus maximus vi formula mobo, Asus GeForce gtx 780 directcu ii, with 8 gb of ram at 1866 mhz and I already set the virtualization in bios to enabled.

With a dual boot you can only run one operating system at a time. If you install a new hard drive, it will not affect your computer's Windoes 8 performance in any way. I wish you the best of luck with your hackintosh project. It's a ton of research and work, but in the end totally worth it! Shoot me a PM if you get stuck along the way. Also go ahead and register for a forum account at TonyMacX86, you're gonna need it!

Thank you so much for your help! I will definitely go with the dual boot, but I will be sure to do my research first so that it is done properly. I appreciate your help and I'll be sure to pm you if I get stuck anywhere! Now it's time to register on that site.
