I'm going to be upgrading a laptop I use for church and community activities with an SSD soon and am wondering if I could simply download the version of Vista it uses to the new drive with just the Activation Key. I can't find the disc as it was years ago that I bought the computer and I really only use it for this non-personal stuff now and would like to not have to upgrade to a new version of Windows for that purpose if I don't have to.

go here to download the vista iso.use a program like imgburn to burn it to a disk.you can then use your key to activate.make sure the iso you download matches the one your key is good for.if you dont or cant go this route the absolute best way is (as mentioned in the previous post) is to clone your existing drive to the ssd.you can use a program such as macrium reflect (free) or acronis true image (free version).you will need to put your ssd into an enclosure and use it like an external hdd.use cloning program to clone your existing drive to the ssd in the enclosure.this will give you a bootable drive with your os and all files and programs.
