Hey, this is my first post so please be kind.

My computer is running windows 7 and is running a bit slow, it didn't suddenly get slow it just got slow slowly. i want to reinstall windows but keep all my programs, files and settings, kind of like restoring on windows 8. i do not want to install each program again one by one.

Once i have got windows reinstall and everything back to normal can i have some tips on getting the best performance out of my system?

CPU: AMD FX-6100
Wireless: TP-Link TL-WN951N
PSU: Corsair CX-600 V2
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3
GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD7870 2Gb GHZ
HDD: WD Caviar blue 500Gb
RAM: Corsair Vengeance (2x4gb) DDR3

looks clean.like i said earlier check to see what programs you have running at startup and uncheck the ones you dont need to run on startup. the services tweak will also free up some system resources to make your machine run faster.cheers

before i would go that route i would think about doing a little housecleening. when was the last time you defragmented your hard drive? have you used your disk cleanup utility recently.have you run a virus and malware scan lately?if you dont know or say no to any of these you need to set up a housecleaning schedule.let me know and we can get started cleaning up your pc.

Thanks, i use Advanced SystemCare Ultimate 7 and it has a defragment utility that i use. I also have Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. But i tihnk it is slow from me installing and uninstalling so many programs over the last couple of months.

what do the antivirus/malware scans pick up?what does it say when you check the level of disk fragmentation?installing and uninstalling programs can fragment the disk as well as leave unwanted registry files.download,update and run ccleaner from piriform.do a disk clean as well as a registry scan.when you do the registry scan it will prompt you to save the registry.click yes and save it to the location of your choice.i use my documents.after backing up the registry click fix all problems.see what that does.advanced system care has some utilities that,if used wrong can actually slow a machine down.

good,no nasties we know of then.did ccleaner clean up much disk space?did it find many registry settings marked for deletion?try checking the fragmentation of the disk with the win7 defragmenter.i defrag if over 5% but im anal about that.lol.another thing to make windows boot up faster is to limit the programs that start with windows.it seems almost every program we install wants to start with windows whether it needs to or not.type msconfig in your search bar on the start menu and click on the file to open it.when the dialog box shows up click on startup to see how many programs are starting with windows.the more programs that start with windows the slower your boot times.uncheck the programs that you dont need to start with windows.i have only three.my antivirus,malwarebytes,and my weather widget.my old phenom triple core with 4gb ddr2 ram boots to a usable desktop in 20-30 seconds.lastly you can change the way some of your services start.this affects boot and general speed much the same as those programs running at startup.many services are set to start automatically even tho we dont need them.a simple set to manual startup and you free up resources for other things.here is a guide that has served me well.let me know how your machine is running.as an after thought download,update,and run hijack this from source forge.just do a scan.do not fix anything just post the logfile.
