what happen if we use the mother board with out battery

my computer was not able to powe on.i open the cpu and tried everything.at last time i remove the battery on motherboard.it starts automatically when i switch on the smps power.why it happen.is there any domage to my board if it runs with out battery

you wont damage the board but any changes in the bios will be lost the next time the computer boots.as well your time settings will need to be reset with every boot.a battery is about $3.well worth it.
