Not true. You can ALWAYS get some if not most of your data back as long as the actual flash chip is not physically damaged or shorted.
The only question is what is specifically wrong with it and whether you're willing to pay a professional data recovery lab that can do flash rebuilds to recover your data.
You should get a free diagnostic done from a reputable data recovery lab that can do flash repair/rebuilds.
If the drive needs a rebuild you should expect costs $600-800 dollars and up depending on the size/type of drive.
