windows xp crashed need to backup harddrive

Windows xp will not boot or go into safemode, i can work in bios only,, need to recover data from hard drive.hardware is all good, only windows is down.computer is an older dell...desktop

I wouldn't be too confident that it's not a hardware issue if Windows won't run in either normal or safe mode.

Anyhow, to get your data off the drive (which, incidentally, you should have backed up before this happened), remove the drive and install it as a second drive in a working computer, or buy an external enclosure for it and plug it in to USB port of a working computer.
