Dying disk? And is there a solution?

I've asked this question many times but can never seem to get an answer. Basically my disk can shoot randomly from 0% to 100% while doing the simplest of tasks and I was wondering could it be affecting my fps in games. My computer has gotten alot slower in general and when the disk hangs at 100% its incredibly slow. Any help would be appreciated.

Not quite sure what you mean by disk shooting from 0 to 100%? The things that are measured in percentages on disks are free space and fragmentation. If you mean usage, what tool / display is showing disk usage in percentage?

If your disk is actually going into spasms of heavy usage, I would suspect either rampant background defragmentation or malware. Can you provide details like your system, operating system, what type of disk (HDD or SSD), what measurement / monitoring tool you are using, whether or not you have security software, and anything else that might be relevant?

Yeah I meant usage. I look using task manager. I used defragler to check my disks health and it said it was fine.

Operating system is windows 8.1(it was doing it on 8 aswell). I have a western digital blue 1tb HDD and I just use basic defender and security essentials. I have malware bytes aswell.

And on note quite a lot of the time whats highlighted as causing the crazy percentages is usually Service host:local system.

The two most frequent offenders that I have seen are the disk indexing service (that's win7 talk, I don't know what it's called in 8) and malware. You have any third-party security?

Other than that, I don't know what something that generic would be pointing to.

I've heard that indexing can be the issue. Is it safe to turn off? And the only virus or malware of any sort I've came across in scans was a Trojan but I believe it was removed. I'm really gripping at anything that means I don't have to replace my disk haha.

Got it turned off. I'll use it for a while and get back to you if it changes. Thanks to both of you for helping.
