Hi guys,

I had GTX 660 and now upgraded to GTX 680. I have i5 3570K @ stock.

I had better performance in game (ARMA 2 DayZ) with my GTX 660 than I have now with my GTX 680.

Is there a possible bottleneck occurring?
Should I overclock my CPU to gain some stability?
Or should I overclock my GPU via the software from EVGA?

I'm not sure what might be causing the FPS drop... but it's noticeable.

Other specs:
EVGA 750w gold cert. PSU
MSI Mpower z77
16 GB ram
512 SSD (+other HDDs)
etc...

Thanks for help!

ArmA II is just a mess of a game when it comes to optimization. There is no way of predicting whether certain hardware combinations will hurt or help performance. There is likely nothing wrong with your system, it is probably just the fact that ArmA II misuses the extra resources. Check to make sure the game did not auto-adjust your graphics settings due to your more powerful hardware.

I played with the settings and I tried everything. I do not see why 680 is worse than 660 in Arma 2.
I get 20 FPS in large cities where i had 40 FPS on 660...

I am willing to spend some time on overclocking if that would help at all... I don't think GPU needs to be overclocked right?

I'm telling you, the benefits from overclocking will be minimal. The game is just horribly optimized. As I said before, there is no apparent rhyme or reason to why it performs better with different hardware combinations, even when the weaker combinations perform better. That's just how it is. You can try turning the grass and trees down to the minimal level, which helps me, but everything else doesn't really seem to matter too much.

Well I chanced it this evening and overclocked my 3.4 to 3.8 GHz with no adjusments to voltages.

I got 100% more FPS than on 3.4.
In big cities I'm at 40-45 where I was at 20. On field I reach up to 80FPS where I had 40 MAX yesterday.

To anyone with this set up - DO OVERCLOCK YOUR CPU. At least a little bit like I did.
It made huge difference...

I checked many servers on 3.4 and it was the same FPS everywhere. Because of this I was sure that there is problem with my setup and not the server side. It's going very well now and Indeed I can hear my GPU actually working with the fans when under pressure.

It was always quiet before the overclock which got me wondering why it's idle all the time, all I needed was a little OC :)

I'm honestly surprised. I've worked with ArmA II on many different builds, and overclocking does not often have a noticeable effect.
