My personal favorite is Bioshock Infinite. There's also Titanfall, which is coming out soon. I played the beta and it's extremely fun. There's also the usual Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts, but those aren't anything too spectacular. Far Cry 3 is also fun, but I'm not sure if that came out last year or not. Older titles I'd recommend would be Borderlands 2 and Payday 2.

Are you looking for Campaign Shooters or Online Shooters?
I will concur with Fluxriflex above, BioShock Infinite is a MUST play. If you haven't played the first two bioshocks, you don't need to. I do know Steam has triple packs for all 3 ever so often and I enjoyed the first two as well.
FarCry3 is really fun as a campaign/sandbox shooter. I see it on Steam deals a lot and you can get it pretty cheap. I found it really fun as well.
Titanfall is coming out soon and is a different style of game. It's 6vs6 and each team also has AI so there are more bodies on each team than actual online players. It's an EA released game so I am holding off to see if they have any of that day one DLC crap or plan too.
I played a lot of BF3, but never bought into BF4 because of all the DLC crap they did. I wasn't buyinig a $60 game and then need to pay $60 for the "premium" DLC maps. It is what it is, but I wouldn't expect it to me much better than BF3. At least from playing the demo I didn't see much of a difference.
PlanetSide2 is really fun as well. It's Free to Play and with a try. It's an MMOFPS and supports thousands of players per continent and there are 3 continents per game to warp between. You can get a monthly subscription that gives you an in game credit allowance and boost packs, or you can just get SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) cards to buy weapons and such in game. You can also just play for free and earn the in game credits to buy the same stuff, it just takes longer. It's very much with the try and the items you start with aren't bad at all. You just don't get the more advanced add-ons to vehicles and such until you buy or earn credits to get them. You can always just ride in another persons vehicle as well. VERY fun game.
Other games to consider. Tomb Raider is a 3rd person game, but well with the play through. Max Payne 3 is also fun. I always like the Crysis games, but have yet to play the 3rd.
